My background and first love is journalism. I have been a writer since my teens and during my time managing a bar in Shoreditch in the late 1990s, began covering music and arts in the area. That led me to joining the launch team of Nuts magazine (IPC Media) in 2002 (!) and from there, to ITP in Dubai.

I quickly became immersed in the booming Middle Eastern art scene and after a fantastic period as Art & Culture Editor at Time Out Dubai and Arts Critic at The National, I was appointed Editor in Chief at the newly-launched Harper’s Bazaar Art Arabia, magazine in 2012. I ran this successful magazine for three years before serious illness put my career on hold.

Once recovered and based in Berlin, I freelanced until September 2019 on arts and lifestyle content and audio for the Financial Times, Interview, artnet.com, The Art Newspaper, Freunde von Freunden, Taschen, Der Spiegel and Vanity Fair, amongst many others.

Now in London (Summer 2021) and I’ve been at The Spectator, producing the weekly ‘The Edition’ podcast, co-hosting weekly arts podcast ‘The Green Room’, as well as print/online posts and articles.

My special passion is for interviews, whether in print or audio. I love researching and reflecting on subjects, working out what motivates and inspires them and relaying my experiences with humour and empathy. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to have interviewed a vast variety of artists, actors, musicians, writers and public figures worldwide, from Yoko Ono to Imran Khan, Michael Caine to Bryan Ferry, John Cleese to John Cale, Benazir Bhutto to Alan Johnson.
